A Time Long Passed (Neolithic Art)

Around 4,000 B.C, Ireland went through a change. It left behind the Mesolithic Era that had been the norm for 4,000 years and entered into what was known as the Neolithic Period. With this move came many developments especially in farming, housing and pottery. One of the most striking developments of this time however was the introduction of Megalithic monuments and new forms of religious and ceremonial art. It truly was a time of great change in our history and we at Irish Made Gifts would like to give you a feel for that time again by showcasing the work of Katie O’ Donoghue.

Katie graduated with a BA (hons) degree in Fine Art from the Crawford College of Art & Design in 2012. She has exhibited in Lavitts Quay Gallery – Cork city, the 2020 Gallery – Cork city, the Joan Clancy Gallery – Dungarvan, and most recently The Killarney Art Gallery.  Her work forms part of several private and public collections including Cork Institute of Technology (C.I.T.)

Katie’s collection of oil paintings were influenced by the ancient culture of this period. Her work brings you back to the time of the ring forts and portal dolmens where Ireland was slowly changing all aspects of its existence. The paintings have a sense of the schematic with map-like compositions of fragmented intuitive formations.

Her work truly is of a rare and unique style and would make a perfect gift for birthdays, retirements and any celebrations or awards in between.
