How to Decorate a Christmas Tree

We have a very special post today!  Tips on ‘How to Decorate a Christmas Tree’ by Mary, affectionately known as “Mary Christmas Tree” as she decorates hundreds of Christmas trees every year at Blarney Woollen Mills, here in Cork, Ireland.

Tips on Dressing Your Christmas Tree

Step 1:

Tease each individual branch, so that it’s not flat like the palm of your hand, up and down to make your tree look nice and full. You should not be able to see the tree trunk.

Step 2:

Having checked that all of your lights are working (I would recommend warm white coloured lights), start by putting them on at the base of the tree working from the trunk out to the tip of each individual branch all the way up the tree. By doing this it will give great depth to the tree.

Step 3:

Having picked your decoration theme, Woodland Scandinavian look or Traditional Christmas(deep red, gold and green), or a classic tartan look…  Embracing all white with feathers with silver and clear glass decorations and also adding  bright red. Or be inspired with the colour of peacock feathers with tones of purple, turquoise, and adding silver and emerald green.

Step 4:

Start with draping garlands of your colour theme around the tree, then make some clusters of baubles, tying groups of three together with a 4 inch wire, and tuck them into the tree by tying the cluster firmly onto a twig. I recommend 3 or 4 different shape baubles, about 6 to 8 of each shape. Tie a piece of ribbon of your choice onto the balance of your  baubles, it gives a bit more luxury and they hang beautifully. Hang them in a zig zag fashion then add your fun and luxury decorations after this. A tip to fill the gaps would be to put faux ponsetti and other floral decorations and ribbon.

Then of course, your angel at the top of the tree, depending on your theme. And there you go your tree is dressed.

Happy Christmas to you all!
