As we all know, when you’re married, your anniversary becomes quite an important date that MUST be recognized and celebrated annually. (That was a warning!) It is seen as a milestone in a relationship. A worthwhile achievement each time it comes around. It is an occasion that is celebrated with gifts from one partner to the other and even friends and family of the couple can take part. Recognizing and celebrating a wedding anniversary is something that goes as far back as medieval times when the only anniversaries considered important were the 25th and the 50th. The 25th anniversary was celebrated by the husband presenting his wife with a silver wreath and for the 50th he presented her with a wreath of gold. Ireland itself has a tradition of celebrating most anniversaries. Many dates are considered important. Here is a list of anniversary gifts from the old Irish tradition.
